13 Best Makeup Trends of 2022 That Will Be Everywhere

Truth time: I love trends. Seriously. I can’t get enough. Summer makeup trends? Done ‘em all. Winter nail trends? I’m literally wearing red French manicure tips right now. So I’m more than delighted to be coming to you with all the best makeup trends of 2022. I'm talking fluffy brows, two-toned eyeshadow, and a fresh take on the cat-eye look. As someone who writes about trends on the reg, I can tell you that these makeup trends are good.

And listen, obviously no trend is permanent (cut to my gothic Facebook albums, circa 2010). But as we’ve learned over the last two pandemic years (!), life is uncertain, and while we could skip fun things like neon eyeliner and statement blush out of fear of our future selves (hi, 2032 me), that’s just no way to live. So if you're ready to join me and my very trendy curtain bangs on this 2022 makeup trend ~journey~, just keep scrolling for the 13 prettiest looks coming this year.

1. This neon eyeliner trend for 2022

Neon eyeliner is one of my favorite makeup trends for 2022, because it can be a whole makeup look on its own, no eyeshadow blending required. It might take you a few tries to perfectly recreate, but a felt-tip liquid eyeliner will help you draw on a clean line without any tugging or skipping on your eyelid.

2. Extra-fluffy brows in 2022

There are a few ways to master this super-fluffy brow: (1) get your eyebrows laminated, (2) DIY them with the soap brows hack (my personal, more budget-friendly strategy), or (3) comb them up with a clear or tinted eyebrow gel (I like Milk Makeup Kush Fiber Eyebrow Gel and Patrick Ta Major Brow Lamination Gel). The bigger and more drawn out, the better.

3. Bold lips for 2022

Nope, the bold lip trend isn't going away anytime soon. The only thing changing? When we wear it. Swipe on your brightest and boldest color (like this vibrant red lipstick on Selena Gomez) for not just first dates and parties, but also for WFH meetings and running errands. And if you’re not sure which shade works best for you, start by narrowing down your skin undertones first, which will help you choose between a warmer or cooler toned lip shade.

4. This minimalist winged eyeliner trend for 2022

NGL, I'm so grateful for this minimalist winged eyeliner trend, since I've never been able to successfully master the full cat-eye. This one is way easier to pull off—just pick up a liquid or crayon eyeliner in your fav color (I'm personally obsessed with the gold eyeliner on Camila Cabello) and draw a small triangle on the outer corners of your eyes.

5. Green eyeshadow in 2022

ICYMI, green is having a major moment RN. For most of my life, it was the most ignored color ever, and now I can’t get enough—and can you blame me? Think of the variations: Lime! Mint! Army! The choices are truly limitless, but if you go with any of them, including this blended forest-green eyeshadow, you'll be very ~on trend~ this year.

6. Glossy lips for 2022

What I don't mean by glossy lips: overly sticky lip gloss that's bound to catch any and every rogue hair it can find. What I do mean: Lip gloss with just a touch of pigment and shimmer (like this warm gold) that'll give your lips a soft glow.

7. This blurred eyeliner makeup trend

As much as I loved a sharp, crisp eyeliner moment, I can't stop looking at this diffused winged eye look for 2022. It's soft, it's subtle, and it's very easy to recreate. Instead of reaching for your liquid or pencil liners, pack a teal eyeshadow on a small eyeshadow brush, then blend it along the inner corner of your eyes, extending it out into a wing that almost touches your eyebrows. Re-load your brush and re-trace the line, until you're left with a softly opaque finish.

8. Statement blush in 2022

Whoever said visible blush mean you were wearing ~too much~ was 100 percent wrong, as evidenced by 2022's statement blush trend. Still, if you're a lil worried about toeing the line between statement blush and WTF-worthy blush, opt for an easy-to-blend blush powder formula rather than a liquid blush, then blend it around the edges of your face in a C-shape. Then, for a glowy finish, dab a dot of liquid highlighter along your cheekbones and brow bones.

9. This burgundy lip makeup trend

Yup, the ‘90s are still back, and probs will be every year until forever. One of 2022's variations? Grunge makeup-inspired burgundy lips. For days when you’re not rocking a ‘90s lip liner moment (more on that below), layer on a bold burgundy lip color like this. Or, for a more lived-in, blurred lip effect, dab your lipstick on the center of your lips, then smudge and blend it out with your finger.

10. This glitter makeup trend in 2022

2022 loves glitter. On your eyes, on your cheeks, on your lips—there’s no wrong way to use it. Want to look like a human disco ball? Grab a roll-on glitter stick and run it over your high points (like your cheekbones). Or, if you want a more soft-glam look like Saoirse Ronan's, dab a cream glitter eyeshadow across your lids with your finger or a small eyeshadow brush.

11. This soft glam makeup look for 2022

While I love a sculpted cheekbone and glistening highlight, I'm also very into this year's soft-glam makeup trend, which is a pared-down, laid-back version of the O.G. Instead of using contour kits and smokey eyeshadow, get yourself a lil liquid blush and some fluffy makeup brushes to diffuse the edges on everything from your eyeliner to your eyeshadow.

12. Two toned eyeshadow for 2022

In 2022, you don't have to choose just one color for your eyeshadow, and you certainly don't have to stick to symmetry either. Try playing around with mixed pastels, like this blue and green, or dip into a neon eyeshadow palette and opt for a hot pink and bright yellow. There are no rules, bbs.

13. Lined lips for 2022

Lip liner is the key to an ombré lip look like Ashley Graham's. Trace the edges of your lips with a lip pencil two shades darker than your lipstick or natural lip shade, layer on your lipstick or lip balm, then gently melt the two together with your (clean!) finger.
