Want a Gentle Massage in Bali? What to Say When You Book

If your idea of a holiday massage is switching off rather than asking for firmer pressure, say that when you book. The most useful starting point is simple: “I would like a relaxing massage with light pressure throughout.” A treatment name alone does not communicate exactly how you want the session to feel.
Describe the experience you want
Tell the team whether you want a quiet break, gentle attention to particular areas, or a broader spa visit. Avoid relying only on words such as “normal” or “medium”, because people can mean different things by them. If a previous massage felt too strong, explain that without needing to name the venue or therapist.
A useful request is: “I prefer gentle pressure, especially around my shoulders. Please check with me at the beginning, and avoid firm work on that area.” The aim is to make your preferences clear before the treatment starts.
Include the details that help the team plan
When contacting The Shampoo Lounge, include your preferred location, date, approximate time and the number of guests. Add your pressure preference and any areas you do not want massaged. Ask which treatment and duration best fit the experience you have in mind, and confirm the price before proceeding.
If you are arranging several services, mention them together. A massage, facial and hair appointment may need different team members and appointment times. Sharing the full plan helps the booking team explain what can fit into your visit.
Tell us your temperature preference
Room temperature matters too. If you tend to feel cold while lying still, mention that when booking. If you prefer a cooler room, say so as well. You can ask for a warmer setting, less direct air-conditioning or an extra covering, and the team can confirm what is possible in your treatment space. For example: “I prefer gentle pressure and a comfortably warm room, without cold air blowing directly on me.” If you feel too warm or chilly during the massage, tell your therapist straight away so they can discuss an adjustment.
You can speak up during the session
Your booking note starts the conversation. Repeat your preference when you meet your therapist, then give feedback early. “A little lighter, please” is enough. You can also ask to pause or stop. You do not need to wait until the end to explain that the pressure is not right for you.
A message you can use
“Hello, I would like to arrange a relaxing massage for [number of guests] at [location] on [date]. My preferred time is [time]. I want light pressure throughout, with no firm work on [area]. Which treatment would you suggest, what is the price, and is that time available?”
Plan your TSL spa visit
Browse the current spa options first, then send your preferences with your appointment request. Ask the team to confirm the treatment, location and timing so you can enjoy your visit without rushing.
